🌙 Ramadan Kareem 1447H

The Blessed Month of Mercy, Forgiveness, and Salvation

🌙 Introduction to the Blessed Month

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is regarded as the most sacred month in Islam. It is a month of mercy (Rahmah), forgiveness (Maghfirah), and salvation from the Hellfire (Najah min an-Nar). It is a divine opportunity granted every year for spiritual renewal and purification of the soul.

For the believers, Ramadan is not merely a ritual of fasting; rather, it is a comprehensive system of spiritual training designed to reform the heart, discipline the body, strengthen faith (Iman), and increase consciousness of Allah (Taqwa).

📜 Historical Background of Ramadan

Fasting in Ramadan was made obligatory in the 2nd year after Hijrah in Madinah. Before that, Muslims would fast on the day of Ashura, but with the revelation of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183-185), fasting for the entire month of Ramadan became compulsory.

It was during this blessed month that the first revelation of the Holy Qur’an descended upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Cave of Hira. The Angel Jibreel (AS) brought the first verses: “Read in the name of your Lord who created...” (Surah Al-‘Alaq 96:1).

Many significant Islamic events also occurred in Ramadan, including:

📖 Ramadan in the Holy Qur’an

Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183):

“O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa.”

The ultimate purpose of fasting is Taqwa — a state of constant awareness and consciousness of Allah.

In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185): “The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”

Thus, Ramadan is known as the Month of the Qur’an.

🕌 Authentic Hadith about Ramadan

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

🌌 Laylatul Qadr – The Night of Power

Laylatul Qadr occurs in the last ten nights of Ramadan and is described in the Qur’an (Surah Al-Qadr) as “better than a thousand months.”

Worship performed on this night carries reward greater than 83 years of worship. Muslims are encouraged to increase prayer, supplication, and Qur’an recitation in these nights.
